Book: The Da Vinci Code · 19. November 2004, 23:23

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

This book was one of the wildly popular summer hits of 2004. Overall it was an enjoyable, very easy read – just what you would expect. The story itself is good but not brilliant and I felt the end was very weak by comparison.

The story mixes antiquity with the modern world as the main protagonists aim to solve a bizarre mystery starting with the murder of a museum curator in the Louvre, Paris. To avoid spoiling any of the story I shall say no more here!

A page entitled ‘Fact’ just before the prologue states at the end:

All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate.

I have little interest in the descriptions of secret rituals but the descriptions of artwork and architecture in particular are often fascinating and alone almost make reading the book worth it.

Verdict? If you’ve got a couple of days and you don’t want to stress yourself in anyway – you could do a lot worse than read the Da Vinci Code.
