Spread Firefox · 21. November 2004, 21:11

Version 1.0 is finally out and it’s time now to start spreading the word to everyone.

I am an enthusiastic supporter of Firefox and the Mozilla project in general. In the past when time allowed I did some bug triage in bugzilla and I run the Bonsai Bugs web site which helps keep people up to date on the latest progress in mozilla.org development. I’ve also converted (or at least tried to convert) several people to Firefox (and previously the Mozilla Seamonkey suite).

As I said in the first sentance above, it is now time to spread the word to everyone. Previously the people to whom I promoted Firefox were already tech savvy and had at least a passing understanding of open source and free software This in my opinion is important. Although many of the milestone releases were good, none had the polish and stability that would convert those without an appreciation for what a bug is and how they are fixed in an open source world. Many less tech savvy people would be left running back to IE at the slightest problem.

Now that Firefox has reached version 1.0 I am hoping and assuming that the mozilla.org crew have dealt with the major issues. The preview release and the release candidates have certainly been close. I will now actively promote Firefox to everyone – I have started this by adding a small Spread Firefox button to robwall.com

For anyone reading this post and not aware of firefox already, I suggest you visit the mozilla.org homepage. There you will discover how you can make the web a better and safer place for everyone by surfing with the most secure and latest technologies available.
