Day 1: Textpattern

No, that is not a typo in the subject. Textpattern v4.0 has really been released. For the uninitiated Textpattern is a very cool blogging/web publishing system written in PHP that despite being around for several years and undergoing many v1.0 release candidates never quite managed to get to v1.0 or v2.0 or v3.0 for that matter. Dean Allen (Textpatterns original creator) explains the number system best in his post Textpattern 4 Stable Released.

For the curious among you a later post in the Textpattern development weblog gives some geek trivia about the system. To get a feel for some of the sites exploting many of the more advanced characteristics of Textpattern than me (yes – this site runs Textpattern), see the post sites running textpattern

In a multiuser setup where there is a need for different roles among the various people adding content to the site, Textpattern is in my opinion a very difficult system to beat.
